I am pleased that today my friend and critical supporter Gasper Gabrijelcic shares his view of his – of course – “best pizza of the world”:

I am honored to be only the second guest reviewer to be invited to post a review on Alexander’s blog; his son Balthasar having previously enjoyed this distinction (https://avdwineandfood.net/2015/02/27/arco-antico-pizzaria-san-marco-di-locorotondo/).  Needless to say, pizza is a most unique food – it manages to be many contradictory things simultaneously: very personal, totally ubiquitous, and bitterly contentious. Not only does everyone have their own favorite spot which is also, as Alexander puts it, „the best in the world“ (https://avdwineandfood.net/2016/02/19/pizza-piazza-rossa-berlin/), but these preferences inspire irreconcilable disagreement and occasionally, the desire to „set the record straight.“

Brandenburg is the “Bundesland” / state which surrounds Berlin. If you leave or arrive in Berlin not by plane you must pass Brandenburg. The very best description of Brandenburg was given ten years ago by German singer and entertainer Rainald Grebe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uellmynA34U. The country is rather poor, empty and very opposite to everything you would connect with Berlin. Forests, lakes, sandy heathlands and agriculture for potatoes and grain are characteristic of this countryside. As much as you could call it cultural a desert you could call it also a culinary desert.

Damien Coquelet, Beaujolais-Villages, 2015

Damien Coquelet, -Villages, 2015, „Les Bourrons“, Red-wine from France

My personal association of Beaujolais is bad if not appalling. The hype of Beaujolais Primeur: much too young, extreme fruity wine of low quality bought and drunk by British. Yes, British are known for bad taste – and as much as many of good British friends of mine would disagree – majority of British at least have a very strange taste.

Grüner Veltliner, Steinleithn, 2009, DAC Reserve, Geyerhof, Kremstal, White-wine from Austria

Krems is a little Austrian town on Danube, maybe 100 km upstream of Vienna. A small side valley of a stream called also Krems gives this wine area which is of a manageable size its name. It verges to two other wine areas Wachau and Kamptal. The Krems valley is rather rich of different soils. Although Danube dominates the countryside, traffic- and infrastructures the little valley offers a niche home for some great winemakers. One of them is the vinery Geyerhof in Oberfucha. Already since 1988 (!) family Meyer produce only organic wines.

White Rabbit, Restaurant, Moscow, Russia

It’s sparkish! It’s bouncing! It’s among the “World’s 50 Best Restaurant” on place 23! It conserves the feeling of New Russia although those times are over! It’s most modern “Russian” cuisine based on a concept you could call “Back To Future”! It’s unfriendly.

Is it even worth to go there? Yes, please, do so even it is (of course) not the 23rd best restaurant of the world! As I am not a professional tester and I not sponsored by San Pelegrino (http://www.theworlds50best.com/) I have the possibility to quote truthful but corybantic subjective. And in particular for this restaurant! Continue reading “White Rabbit, Restaurant, Moscow”

Angkor Wat, Cambodian Restaurant, Berlin, Germany

Cambodian Food is different than Vietnamese or Thai. Of course there are many similarities but if you take in consideration how many Vietnamese restaurants there are in Berlin, I think it is important to mention. It is perhaps like Austrians would insists that their cooking is different to the Bavarian way of cooking. For someone coming from Australia or USA it probably is rather difficult to recognize huge differences.

Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia Bolgheri Doc, 2012

Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia, Bolgheri Doc, 2012, Tenuta dell‘ Ornellaia, Red-wine from Italy

Vinery Ornellaia is one of the most distinguished in Tuscany. The most famous wine of it has the simple name of the vinery Ornellaia which lays in the region Bolgheri belongs to the top wines of supertuscan.

Le Serre Nuove is the second wine or as many reviews say the little brother of the main brand. Although 2012 is too young in my mind, the vinery puts a lot efforts to make this wine drinkable as early as possible – probably to be able to sell and consume quickly. Anyhow, even this is too young, you immediately realize drinking a great, big red wine. Black and wild cherries, a bit cassis but also some plum, these are the fruity aromas. Not to lead you into any wrong impression, the wine is in general pretty dry which I really enjoy. There is pepper and some oak spice, aromatic balance which grows with each minute the bottle is open.
