Venissa, Restaurant and Vineyard, Marzzorbo

Venissa, Restaurant and Vineyard, Marzzorbo (Venice), Italy

What a remarkable restaurant! I should have heard about this one, but never did. Recommended along many other awarded restaurants of Venice the description of it made me curious and let you in the impression visiting a friendly place. I did not put attention on the location and thought it should be in Venice. The concierge of my hotel told me that I would need either ca. 1,5h by the water bus or 30 – 40 minutes by water taxi.

The restaurant is located on another island of the Venice Laguna called Marzzorbo close to Burano. It is not only a restaurant but also small vineyard. You can even rent a room for some nights – probably without the classic hotel service certainly a great option for another stay.

Il Pane e le Rose, Restaurant, Berlin

Restaurant, Il Pane e le Rose or as everyone in Berlin knows it: Brot und Rosen, Berlin, Germany

Every third guest of this place probably is patron and from the direct neighborhood. Located along a street which is the border between a lovely park (Friedrichshainer Volkspark) and Berlin sub-district Bötzowviertel this restaurant faces a lot of competition as mentioned “Viertel” – area – is rich of different restaurants, bars and inns.

Chateau Lestage, Listrac Médoc, 2009

Chateau Lestage, Listrac Médoc, 2009, Cru Bourgeois, Red-Wine from France

You can get two different wines from Chateau Lestage: a white and a red one. The red one is called Lestage, the female version seems to be the white one which is called nicely as Chateau Caroline.

Cháteau Le Crock, Saint Estèphe, 2009

Cháteau Le Crock, Saint Estèphe, 2009, Grand Vin Bordeaux, Red-wine from France

This vintage is two years older than the same wine of 2011 I tried recently. I like to risk writing that I would prefer the younger one. To avoid any misunderstanding (!), the 2011 is perhaps less drinkable yet but 2009 is. Please find my review about the 2011 here: https://avdwineandfood.wordpress.com/2015/08/20/chateau-le-crock-saint-estephe-2011/.

Jean des Sables, Restaurant in Hossegor

Jean des Sables, Restaurant in Hossegor, France

Beautiful location, great architectonic and stylish building above the beach of Hossegor (30-40 km in the North of Biarritz) – so your expectation are reasonable high as the internet is full of some ecommendations, too.

Cháteau Le Crock, Saint Estèphe, 2011

Cháteau Le Crock, Saint Estèphe, 2011, Grand Vin de Bordeaux, Red-wine from France

Crock’n Roll… Rolling Stones… perhaps my first Bordeaux which I would call stony. Introduced to me by Anne Cuvelier, a member of the impressive winemaker’s family Cuvelier who also own and run the famous vinery Leovillé Poyferré (https://avdwineandfood.wordpress.com/2015/02/20/chateau-leoville-poyferre-saint-julien-2007/ ) I had the chance to try the really exciting red of their Cháteau Le Crock which is located in St. Estèphe, probably for many a well know vinery village in the northern part of Medoc.

Cháteau Latour-Martillac, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan, 2011

Cháteau Latour-Martillac, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan, 2011, Redwine from France

The wine area Graves is a part of Bordeaux although you would not recognize this if you wouldn’t know automatically about Graves or you turn the bottle and see the backside label.  I bought this bottle at a Casino or Intermarche kind of supermarket in the southern suburbs of Bordeaux. Although it wasn’t too cheap it demystifies the glamour and approach of a “Grand Cru Classé” wine from Bordeaux. The presentation of the wine at the supermarket board was unattractive, on the other hand, and this is likeable that so good wine is accessible to more or less everybody (you at least need to be in the suburbs of Bordeaux). So, why not to buy such wine in a supermarket! But why these wines are on sale if they are still so young? I simply doubt that anyone buys a wine at this store to take them home, store it appropriately and drink it only in some years or even in the best case in a decade.

Ovum, Sauvignon Blanc, Aldinger, 2013

Ovum, Sauvignon Blanc, Aldinger, 2013, White Wine from Germany

WP_20150405_006Ambitious, highfalutin, bold, cool or just refreshing – you could use each adjective if you like to describe the concept and wine named Ovum. Ovum is Latin and translates into egg. What has an egg to do with wine? Actually nothing except that one can imagine some chicken between vines.

Restaurant Embassy, Karlovy Vary

Restaurant Embassy, Karlovy Vary, Czech Repbulic

Another prestigious restaurant in Karlovy Vary is called Embassy. Similar to the restaurant Promenada on which I recently wrote also a review (https://avdwineandfood.wordpress.com/2015/07/07/restaurace-promenada-karlovy-vary/) Embassy is a hot-spot for prominent and VIPs of Czech Republic. Many international stars have been at this place, too, since it is one of “the” Karlovy Vary Film Festival restaurants.

This sort of grapes is called differently depending to the area it grows:  Refosco and Terrano in Italian areas and in Slovenia Refošk and Teran. Reading about Refosco it seems there are some sub-sorts.

As probably most of us we don’t know too much about wines from Slovenia. I already wrote some reports about Slovenian wines (https://avdwineandfood.wordpress.com/tag/slovenia/) as well as about the wonderful restaurant and pension Hisa Franko (https://avdwineandfood.wordpress.com/2015/04/27/hisa-franko-restaurant-hotel-staro-selo/).
